To Audition for “FUTURAMA”..??
If you haven’t heard, Fox is looking for Voice Actors to replace the voice cast of “Futurama.” They wanted more money from Fox, who some say was making zillions off of Futurama….Full Variety Article
Let me put this…like this…in a recession, a pimp ( 20th Fox) controls a very profitable corner (Futurama) in the city. His whores (Voice Actors) ask for more money. He warns his stable, to get in line, or they’ll be fired. His whores have a clientele built up where they’re earning millions, not only from that pimp, but many others. The Pimp (Fox) makes alot of money of this select group of whores too. The worst happens, and the pimp decides to let them go. The whores are dismayed, but not exactly going broke. Their income is dented so much so, that they might not be able to afford the pool boy this year. After all folks, we’re in a recession here.
The pimp is in a quandary and starts to take resumes(Voice Demos) from other whores (Voice Actors) who will probably work a cut rate…maybe half of what his others worked for. The other whores are flooding the pimp with resumes and videos of what they can do. Then all of a sudden, those whores are getting nasty emails and hate mail saying things like…”don’t work for that pimps he treats his talent un-fairly.” Everyone in the biz know that this whole thing might be a “pimp ploy” to get his original whores back and working for less money. It might work. It’s worked on another big corner (The Simpsons)
From the whore stand point, when asked to submit a resume (Voice Demo) to the powerful pimp (20th Fox) and maybe be given the chance to work on the big corner…would you? Because even if you don’t get that corner, the pimp has you’re resume and MIGHT call if there happens to be a opening. Plus there is the off chance, and it’s very SLIM, that you might actually get a piece of the major street corner.
Are you taking money out of the pockets of the big time whores…maybe alittle. They might have to do their own gardening. Will you be black balled for sending in a resume, I doubt it very much.
As other whores berate me for sending in my resume, the pimp(20th Fox) is listening to it and he’s not hearing your voice. By the way…”Hey, Get Off My Lawn” too. Will my phone ring with a call from the big time pimp..I also doubt that very much too. Well it’s back to working my street…the corner of “Getting By Any Way” and “Car Commercial” BLVD. It’s a good living and it’s good to be living.

You know who else can do those voices? Billy West and John DiMaggio! They should be doing the voices, nobody wants the cast to be replaced!

Even if there is a new cast,fans will despise them. Oh sure, casual viewers won’t care. But we’re the reason the show is coming back.
We’ll notice. And be pissed. The show will get canceled again.
We’re just crazy that way.
The Voice Artists community will view new cast members as scabs.
Good luck to you if you do get the gig,you’re gonna need it.
